MGM pours equity into Yumeshima project

MGM Resorts contributes $450 million in equity this year to the Osaka Yumeshima integrated resort. The project, managed by the MGM Resorts and Orix Corporation consortium, began construction on April 24, 2025. This development follows the installation of over 40 percent of the foundation piles and the pouring of the first concrete floor. The consortium maintains a 40 percent stake through MGM and Orix, while 22 minority shareholders hold the remaining interest. The total initial investment reaches 1.27 trillion yen. MGM provides guarantees totaling 12.65 billion yen for 50 percent of the project obligations. The company also secured a $3.4 billion bank loan to fund near-term construction needs. Delayed openings and shifting goals

Osaka Mayor Ichiro Matsui shifted the completion timeline for the integrated resort to 2027 or 2028. He attributed these delays to the global coronavirus pandemic and the inability to meet with the candidate consortium. The city previously intended to open a resort in time for the 2025 World Expo, but officials abandoned that goal. The MUSUBI Hotel component contains 660 rooms. A separate 56-meter-tall hotel with 13 above-ground floors and one basement level houses the luxury accommodations. The hotel-resort building provides an intimate experience through specialized studios for traditional Japanese activities such as tea ceremonies. The casino floor covers 23,293 square meters and contains 470 gaming tables and 6,400 electronic gaming machines. The MICE facility covers 16.7 hectares and rises 27 meters over four stories; it includes 400,000 square feet of conference facilities and 330,000 square feet of exhibition space. The facility also contains a 3,500-seat theater. The construction consortium includes Takenaka Corporation, Obayashi Corporation, and Shimizu Corporation.
