Michigan regulatory shifts requiring in-state studios have driven massive expansion for providers like Evolution. This market growth follows a surge in Michigan internet gaming revenue, which reached $171.8 million in March.
Michigan regulatory shifts and expansion
The Michigan Gaming Control Board authorized live dealer games for state online casinos on July 22. This authorization allowed nine partners, including BetMGM MI Casino, DraftDogs, FanDuel, Fox Bet, Golden Nugget, Penn Sports/Barstool, Rush Street, TwinSpire, and William Hill, to launch their games on the same day. Because Michigan rules require live dealer studios to be built inside the state, the existing East Coast studios cannot serve Michigan players, so companies must build new facilities within the borders of the Wolverine State. Evolution signed a deal with William Hill for its Michigan operations. William Hill uses a partnership with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians to access the market. Evolution also acquired NetEnt to expand its presence. Playtech holds a lease for a studio in Southfield, but the Michigan Gaming Control Board has not approved its license.
Three tribal casinos, specifically FireKeepers, Play Gun Lake, and Four Winds, were not immediately approved by the MGCB. A fourth tribal casino, Soaring Eagle, will only offer online casino games when it launches. Evolution also opened its first US casino studio in New Jersey in August 2018, and a second purpose-built studio in New Jersey launched on November 10. This second studio provides access to Football Studio, which is the first live dealer variant of a top card game in North America. Michigan’s internet gaming revenue reached $171.8 million in March, which is higher than the $153.7 million record from January. Total internet gaming and sports betting receipts for Michigan reached $216.4 million in March, a 26.7 percent increase from February.
Partnership extensions and game variety
FanDuel extended its three-year agreement with Evolution to include live casino games and slots from NetEnt, Red Tiger, Big Time Gaming, and Nolimit City. This agreement builds on a partnership the two companies started in 2020. Evolution provides over 200 live dealer tables across seven categories, and this massive selection includes Blackjack, Baccarat, Roulette, Poker, Craps, Dice, and various game show formats that appeal to many different types of players. In Michigan, players access live craps through BetMGM, BetRivers, PointsBet, and PokerStars Casino. This craps game is the third in the US to be available, following its 2022 launch in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Evolution also released the brand-new Football Studio in North America. Lightning Roulette provides multipliers up to x500 for players. The Multi-Game Play feature lets players monitor and bet on up to four different live games at once from one screen. Evolution’s game shows include Crazy Time, which has four bonus rounds, and Monopoly Live, which uses 3D animation and a digital Monopoly man. The Baccarat Control Squeeze feature allows the player to reveal cards from a glass plate. You should look at the specific game variety if you want to understand why Evolution maintains such a large market share. Evolution’s games lead to player sessions that last 2.3 times longer than those on competing platforms.
Studio operations and workforce requirements
Evolution hires people for its Southfield studio to manage 24/7 shifts. These roles involve day, evening, and overnight rotations. Studio hosts act as the face of the game. They introduce players, follow game procedures, and speak clearly on camera. Evolution pays these employees a base rate and a guaranteed tip rate. The total hourly pay averages between $20 and $25 per hour because the base rate is supplemented by a guaranteed tip rate that provides additional income for the studio hosts every shift. Evolution provides paid in-house training through Evolution Academy. No previous casino or dealing experience is required for these roles. The company also provides medical, dental, life, and vision insurance, a 401(k) match, and a 50% discount on garage parking.
Evolution employs approximately 10,000 workers across its global operations and maintains several studios in Latvia, Malta, the USA, Canada, and Romania to send live broadcasts to a wide variety of customers and players. People with experience in restaurants, bars, hotels, or performing arts are strong fits for these positions.
Technical specifications and market dominance
Evolution holds 67% of the live dealer market. Its technology uses Game Control Units to encode live video data and manage game details in real time. Optical Character Recognition ensures that dealt cards are captured and displayed. All games use HTML5 technology to work on desktops, tablets, and smartphones. Evolution provides 4K and HD video resolutions from its various studios.
